THE BUSINESS NEWS OF THE DAY (1)
ΤΙΡ 1: CONFIRMATIONS
### We spoke to you, at the beginning of the week, about actions of large groups. 48 hours later:
Α) The Dutch buy Hellactor shares
Β) CVC announces its takeover bid on Vivartia
TO KNOW: Our sources insist that it is not over.
THE NEWS OF THE DAY (1)
EVOLUTION
— We have a third version regarding the number of new Rafale fighter jets that will be purchased by the Greek Air Force from France. Speaking on a radio station in Paris, the head of the construction company “Dassault”, claimed that there will be seven!
THE SURPRISE: The event is impressive, for a reason. The French government is talking about eight and the Greek government is talking about six. And now the manufacturer comes and says τά seven. Strange?
THE CONFIRMATION: Dassault, in any case, makes a commitment that it will never sell its own fighters to Turkey. By international standards, it is not such an obvious commitment. That is why it has its value.
THE CLARIFICATION: And one more detail, which explains a lot. Eventually, Egypt canceled its own order of 20 Rafale. That is why Greece did not get the 10 from this batch of new fighters, which would be given to us by Egypt, immediately. Instead, the Swiss Air Force finally placed the order. But she never promised us anything
THE NEWS OF THE DAY (2)
NAMES
— A list of five Turkish companies and three Turkish officials, who in one way or another are related to the illegal investigations carried out by Ankara in the Cypriot territorial waters, was given by President Anastasiadis to the President of the European Council, Michel. He called, among other things, for them to be barred from any relations with the EU, in the context of sanctions against Turkey, which it seeks to take at the September 24th summit.
THE THREAT: Nicosia threatens to veto EU sanctions against Belarus otherwise
THE REALITY: What is being told to us, however, competently, is that no matter what happens, in the end the Cypriot side will not exercise any veto. It just threatens…
THE ENIGMA OF THE DAY
WHY DID HE GO?
### Athens is still wondering what kind of commitments (and in exchange?) Albanian Prime Minister Rama made to Erdogan when he paid a surprise visit to Ankara, just 24 hours before arriving in Athens on Tuesday. As it is known, Greece is in the process of negotiating with Albania for the determination of the EEZ.
THE BUSINESS NEWS OF THE DAY (2)
GRAND OPENING
— The occupancy rate in hotels in the center of Athens may be as high as 20%, due to the pandemic, however new units are preparing to launch their operation. Most have been ready for a long time and can no longer be closed. For this, note:
*** In Kolonaki, where the Canadian embassy used to be housed, Briq Properties will operate the boutique hotel The Modernist immediately. We remind you that this property was bought by the Turkish group Dogus, before the “down ride” took it and sold it
*** Athens Ikon will soon open in Syntagma Square, specifically on Mitropoleos Street, with the specifications of a luxury boutique hotel, for the needs of the city center
*** The Omega Hotel is preparing to open its doors in Omonia Square, while in the second phase at least two more units are opening in the wider area of the center of the capital.
NOTE THAT: It goes without saying that all the above hotels (and those that are already operating) hope that normalcy will return immediately……
THE BUSINESS NEWS OF THE DAY(3)
ΤΙΡ 2: ARRIVALS
### The arrival of the first cargo of Hyundai Merchant Marine was almost celebrated in the port of Piraeus. It was the only one of the ten large foreign transit companies that no longer passes through Piraeus, after the takeover of the port by Cosco and now it is there. It was all well organized.
AND FINALLY…
THE OBSERVATION OF THE DAY
GREEK-TURKISH
— For the first time, after a long time, there are no disturbing twists and turns on the Greek-Turkish front. In the background, as we learn, the employees of Mitsotakis and Erdogan, have opened a direct line, without the mediation of third parties and are preparing a first contact between the two leaders (probably by phone)
THE FORECAST: Whatever is to be done, will be done (probably) before September 24th.
YOU SHOULD ALSO KNOW THAT:
*** The final countdown for the institution of the “golden visa” begins. The Commission has targeted it because of the way it operates in two EU member states, namely Cyprus and Malta. In the best cases, its administration will become stricter. At worst, it will stop.
*** France has chosen to switch to 5G for the years to come and it will not be via the Chinese Huawei. Beijing is losing battle after battle. It also shows how the Chinese Foreign Minister’s last tour of the EU failed earlier this month.
*** An international forum, entitled Global Health Summit, will be organized by Italy in 2021. Its subject: the day after the pandemic, in terms of hygiene problems in addition. Next year Italy will take over the presidency of the G-20, so the event has a role. Although the most important criterion was to what extent the country will be immune to Covid-19
*** Wolfgang Schäuble is 77 years old, President of the Bundestag and former Minister of Finance in the German government. He has been elected in Offenburg since 1971. Why are we telling you all this? He is preparing to run again in the next national elections in Germany……
*** For at least the next three years, the Fed will keep its key rates close to zero. This was the codified message from the Fed meeting last week
AND A QUESTION:
*** If the retail price of the Playstation 5 with the Xbox reaches $ 500 in the United States, then in Europe and especially Greece, how much will it sell for?
